The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is already underway, and as Sport Blot had previously reported, 32 teams are participating in the tournament, which runs from June 14 to July 13.
This is the first time the competition is being hosted by the United States, in 12 of its finest stadiums. As for the focus of this piece, four African teams — Al Ahly (Egypt), Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), Espérance de Tunis (Tunisia), and Wydad AC (Morocco) — are also participating and are aiming to make history.
Let’s look at the stadiums in the United States where these four African clubs will be showcasing their top performances.
Note that at the time of writing, all participating teams are still competing in the group stage. If they qualify, other venues will be assigned to them for their upcoming fixtures.
Al Ahly (Group A)
Al Ahly kicked off their campaign on June 14 at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium, which has a capacity of 64,767, going up against the tournament’s host and football icon, Lionel Messi’s side, Inter Miami CF.
We already know the outcome of this match, which ended in a goalless draw, with the record CAF Champions League goalkeeper, Mohamed El-Shenawy, making some crucial saves in the game.
Al Ahly takes on SE Palmeiras today, June 19, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, which can accommodate over 71,000 fans. Al Ahly’s star man, Emam Ashour, picked up a shoulder injury barely seven minutes into their first game against Inter Miami, meaning he will be absent for this game.
Rounding up the group stage, the Egyptian giants will then go ahead to face FC Porto on June 24, at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, which has up to 80,000-seating capacity.
Espérance Sportive de Tunis (Group D)
Espérance Sportive de Tunis, in their opening game, faced CR Flamengo on June 17 at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California, with a capacity of precisely 89,702. Unfortunately, the Tunisian giants fell to a 2-0 defeat.
However, all hope is not lost as Espérance has another chance at the 72,220-capacity NRG Stadium in Houston against LAFC on June 20th.
On June 25, they will play English powerhouse Chelsea at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara to wrap up the group stage. 68,500 fans are expected to be present to see this highly anticipated game.

Mamelodi Sundowns (Group F)

Mamelodi Sundowns are off to a fantastic start already because on June 18, they faced Ulsan HD in their Group F Campaign, and Rayners scored the only goal that sealed their first victory in the tournament. The thrilling game took place at the 20,000-seat Audi Field in Washington, D.C.
On June 21, they play German powerhouse Borussia Dortmund at the 82,500-seat MetLife Stadium in New York.
On June 25, the South African champions take on Fluminense at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, which has a seating capacity of 26,000, in their third game.
Wydad AC (Group G)

Finally, Wydad AC were faced with a huge dilemma on June 16 when they faced English side, Manchester City, in their opening game at Nashville's 30,109-seat capacity GEODIS Park. Ultimately, the African champions ended the game with a devastating 2-0 loss with goals from Phil Foden and Jeremy Doku.
It is also worth noting that Algerian star player Rayan Ait-Nouri has recently joined the English side, even though he didn’t play against Wydad AC. He is, however, expected to play in their upcoming fixtures.
The Moroccan club are obviously in a tight spot because their next group stage match is against Italian giants Juventus on June 22, at Lumen Field in Seattle, which has a capacity of 68,740.
Up next, they’ll play Al Ain at the 74,867-seating capacity Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on June 26.
These African clubs are making efforts to make their mark on the global stage, and we as Africans can throw in our unwavering support for them. Best of Luck to Al Ahly (Egypt), Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), Espérance de Tunis (Tunisia), and Wydad AC (Morocco)!
